Wood is Medalist at the Local Westfield Golf Invite
Local high school senior Adam Wood took medalist honors at the Westfield Invite May 10th, at Zionsville’s Prairie View Golf Course. This isn’t Wood’s first title, he has quite a few wins under his belt. Last Saturday, Wood shot an impressive 70 on the beautiful 18-hole course; not too bad for a young student.
According to the Zionsville Times Sentinel, head coach Steve Simmons said it can be hard for Wood, ranked as one of the top high schoolers in the nation, to consistently win one-day tournaments because there is so much that can happen in a single round of golf. Wood has won 15 to 20 tournaments in his four years of playing golf, and recently added another from the lone two-day for IHSAA golfers at the state finals.
“If we played all three-round tournaments, over the course of three rounds he would beat most players because he plays consistently so great,” Simmons said in the recent article. “It is harder when you have 80 players just playing one round. Anyone can get hot on any team.”
The Eagles placed fifth overall in the May 10th tournament with a total score of 316; Carmel won with a score of 297. Wood led the team by having the best score out of all the individuals. He has a strong desire to continue his love for golf after high school.
Earning the medalist award at the Westfield was just one more step for Zionsville High School star Wood – stay tuned as his golf career continues to blossom.
