Wayzata High School Grad Places No. 1 in Essay Contest

Recent Wayzata High School graduate Alec Overland took home some major accolades for an essay he completed in his Managing Your Investments class.

According to the Sun Sailor, the 2014 grad submitted the essay to the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Foundation’s InvestWrite essay competition and took first place. The contest invites 4th- through 12th-graders across the nation to analyze investments and recommend ways to target financial goals, the Sailor reported.

“I was proud of what I was able to write,” Overland told the Sun Sailor. “I was really interested in the topic, and I enjoyed writing it, but I submitted it not really expecting to win.”

Overland will attend Gustavus Adolphus College in the fall, and likely study business and finance, the paper said.
