Trojan Girls Nordic Ski Team Take First at Mesabi Invite
Known as the biggest one-day Nordic ski event in the country, the Mesabi East Invitational had more than 70 schools and 1,200 skiers! Wayzata took first place at the meet at Giant’s ridge on Saturday, January 11th. The girls’ Nordic team were proud of their victory, as they walked away with the big win of the day!
Half way through the season, this invitational is an opportunity for skiers from all over to come together and compete. They face-off as individuals for their teams to prove their skills and training this season. Many team members took the spotlight that day, senior Alayna Sonnesyn took first place in the freestyle race! She had a tremendous win, with a time of 16 minutes and 11 seconds.
Wayzata won because of the team as a whole, each individual achieved personal best times! Junior Nicole Schneider placed 15th in the freestyle, a very close race. Leading the classical race, Anna French placed third and sophomore Michaela Keller-Miller was in eighth place. Outstanding performances by all the Trojan girls’ at the Mesabi East!
