Birchview Elementary Receives Grant for Nature Center Improvements

Birchview Elementary School was one of more than 600 schools across the country to recently received a grant from the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation.

According to the Sun Sailor, the school got a $2,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant for improvements to the Birchview Nature Center.

The nature center project included the removal of buckthorn, planting of trees and shrubs, maintenance and educational tools, the newspaper reported. The project was completed this spring, but more work will need to be done in the upcoming school year.

The Lowe’s Toolbox for Education has given more than $40 million to schools across the country since 2006, the Sun Sailor said.

Birchview Elementary, just a bit north of Wayzata Blvd, is part of the Wayzata Public Schools district.
