First Indiana School District to Receive IB Recognition
Washington Township schools, and the community, came together last week to celebrate the district’s recent authorization of Eastwood, Northview, Westland middle and North Central High Schools, as International Baccalaureate World Schools.
The event was held at the H. Dean Evans Community and Education Center, and special guest State Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz made an appearance.
Washington Township is the first school district in the state of Indiana – and one of only six nationwide – to be a fully authorized school district, delivering curriculum through the IB framework to every student, according to the Metropolitan School District website.
“It has been a five year journey to become a fully authorized International Baccalaureate World School district,” said Washington Township Superintendent Dr. Nikki Woodson, on the website. “We could not be more excited to be starting our 2014-15 school year with each of our elementary, middle schools, and North Central High School fully authorized IB World Schools.”
