Waconia’s Mackenthun’s Aims to Help Customers With Nutrition Through New App
More and more people are becoming concerned with the foods they are putting into their bodies, and the advent of smartphones and their apps are helping people make better decisions on the go. Waconia’s Mackenthun’s Fine Foods is getting in on the nutrition app train now, too.
According to the Sun Patriot, the grocer has teamed up with Shop Well to create a personalized nutrition app for Android and iOS users. Shoppers with the app can simply scan a barcode and all the nutrition facts will be at their fingertips.
“It takes one minute to enter in your height, weight, gender, health conditions, and allergies,” ShopWell Marketing Manager James Allgood told the Patriot. “Then you scan a barcode with your smartphone in the supermarket and instantly get a rating of how healthy the item is for you,” he continued, noting that the app has been downloaded more than 1.5 million times. “Instead of scrutinizing a list of ingredients in small print with purposely misleading ingredient names, ShopWell flags any ingredients that are unhealthy for you and presents you the data to make an informed decision.”
The app is designed to help save time when considering what products to buy and it can match products to your unique profile.
