Waconia Youth Hockey Players Hosts Russian Team

Players that play on opposite sides of the earth from each other are being brought together for a couple competitive and friendly games in Waconia.

According to the Sun Patriot, 15 Waconia players are hosting a Russian team for two games at the Waconia Ice Arena. The first game was Aug. 24 and the second and final game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 4.

Scott Youngstrand, a parent of one of the Waconia players and organizer of the games, said the Waconia team was pumped for the matchup.

“It’s a great opportunity for them to see the game in a different form,” he told the newspaper.

The games are also a continuation of the classic rivalry between the United States and Russia when it comes to hockey.

The Sept. 4 game is free and open to the public.
