Waconia Man Gives Blood to Make a Difference
Waconia resident Bob Hildebrandt has found meaning and joy in life: whenever he can he donates blood.
Memorial Blood Centers estimate that one in every seven patients entering a hospital can be helped by blood donations. According to the Sun Patriot, Hildebrandt recently hit a huge milestone with his donations, getting to the 100 unit mark—which is more than 12 gallons of blood in his lifetime. Hildebrandt started giving blood around the age of 20, and now at the age of 75, believes he is doing something that really makes a difference.
“I can donate and I thank God everyday that I can,” Hildebrandt told the Sun Patriot. “I’m so happy because we’re helping so many other people.”
“I know people who have donated 13 to 14 gallons,” he added later. “I’m going to keep giving blood as long as I am able to do it. I think it’s a wonderful thing to do.”
