The Minnesota Memorial Classic Criterium Bike Race Returns

For the third year, the Minnesota Memorial Classic Criterium bike race is now becoming a popular tradition among Waconia residents. The cycling event begins Memorial Day weekend and finishes on that following Monday. Expected to be even bigger than last time, the race brings participants from Wisconsin, both Dakotas, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and even Canada!

Bikers do continuous laps for a specified length of time on the same course – sounds boring, but actually it tests the racers’ real endurance. It is a very difficult competition, and over 165 bikes race each day! Starting in Lester Prairie, the course proves challenging with repeated hills and plains. Once the bikers reach the finish line in Waconia, they are greeted with thousands of onlookers, cheering them on.

Since many residential streets are used for the race, the home owners will be contacted and notified of the exact schedule. The roads will have to be shut down for the bikers’ safety, allowing no access for a short period of time. Let’s join in on this new Midwest tradition in Waconia this Memorial Day weekend!
