Groundbreaking Held for Carver County Veteran’s Memorial
While construction isn’t expected to begin until the spring, a ceremonial groundbreaking was held anyway for the coming Carvery County Veteran’s Memorial.
According to the Sun Patriot, the memorial, which was organized by a 15-person committee, will be located next to the Dakota Rail Trail head on the intersection of Highway 25 and County Road 30 in Mayer.
“While the monument will be breath-taking in scale the impact of reading the stories of veterans will also be immense,”Carver County District 5 Commissioner Jim Ische reportedly said at the groundbreaking. “This memorial will give a voice to their service.”
The all-inclusive memorial will be 40 feet across and about 10 feet high with a kneeling soldier statue with a center glass display for rotating, the article said. In addition, two paved paths that lead up to the main display will feature four rows of 4-foot wide pavers with the names of those who served. About 130 of those pavers have already been purchased, according to the article.
