Eagle Scout Builds Memorial Garden for Drowning Victim
Eagle Scout Evan Govig has built a memorial garden in honor of the 6-year-old Hunter Heyrman, who died in a drowning accident on Parley Lake last year.
According to the Sun Sailor, Govig was looking for a project for his Eagle Scout Award and thought of an outdoor garden that would also serve as a working classroom for students. After pitching it to St. Joseph’s School—Hunter’s school—and getting donations together, he got started on his plan.
“The garden is designed as a quiet place where people can stop and admire the flowers or sit and soak up the sun, and will serve as a living memorial to Hunter that will live on for years to come,” the newspaper wrote.
Govig is currently a senior at Waconia Senior High School.
