Color Splash 5K Honors Waconia’s Lexi Kretsch

Waconia High School senior Madison Schochenmaeir is heading up a 5K color run fundraiser event that will honor the life of Lexi Kretsch, who died last July after sustaining injuries in a car accident.

According to the Sun Patriot, the race has been dubbed Miles of Smiles. Lexi’s nickname was “Smiley.”

“[A color run] just makes you smile, which is what Lexi was known for,” Schochenmaeir told the newspaper.

Proceeds of the event go toward the Lexi Kretsch Scholarship Fund, which will be awarded to a Waconia senior. The scholarship is designed for a student that shows they have a passion, but may not have the grades that show it, the newspaper said.

The event is set for 8 a.m. Saturday, April 2. The registration fee is $30 and can be done online. Sponsorships are available, and if you would like to participate, email milesofsmilesalexiskretsch@gmail.com.
