Barn Quilters Earn the 2013 Touchstone Energy Community Award

Receiving the Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative’s 2013 Award is the Barn Quilts of Carver County, a familiar community project for Waconia locals. The Touchstone Energy Community Award is only given to those locally-based artistic ventures that seem to produce great results! The Barn Quilts proved themselves this year with their on-going persistence for perfection, and obvious talent.

Quilting gives people of all ages the opportunity to experience an entirely new and creative way to express themselves. The researching, designs, and painting of the large wooden quilt squares can be quite detailed, but it sure pays off in the end for this group! Now in the running for a $1,000 award at the state level, the members are excited for the announcement come Spring.

On display in the research barn at the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, you can view the large, 8 foot by 8 foot wooden quilt squares, as well as throughout 24 barns of Carver County and in the city of Waconia. Visit for more information on this quilting extravaganza, or you can contact Janet Fahey at 612-382-4512.
