“A Day of Remembrance” Commemorates Memorial Day in Anthem
Now an annual tradition, Anthem celebrates “A Day of Remembrance” on Memorial Day with a ceremony which honors the five branches of the military. Being the third year of the event, they have made this a part of the community’s yearly calendar. Locals gather from the northeast Phoenix area to recognize those that have served and fallen for our country.
There are five pillars to represent the unity of the five branches: U.S. Navy, Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard. According to AnthemNews.com, this year’s event is hosted by the city’s Veterans Memorial Support Team and the Daisy Mountain Veterans.
Memorial Day events include a keynote address by Doree Berggren, of Blue Star Mothers of America Inc., a P.O.W. and M.I.A. ceremony, a special tribute to the 26 veterans commemorated at the Memorial who were killed in action or are missing in action, and a beautiful performance by ProMusica Arizona.
Join other Anthem residents for “A Day of Remembrance” because Memorial Day is not about hanging out at the lake and grilling; it’s about remembering those that have fought for our freedom. Located at the Anthem Community Park, 41703 N. Gavilan Peak Parkway, at 10 a.m. Monday, May 26 morning.
Seating will fill up quickly, and is limited, so please bring your own lawn chairs or blankets.
