With so many different cabinet styles, finishes and options to choose from, it can be hard to know what decisions to make when it comes to choosing your cabinets.
With a little help and knowing what to look for, you can find the perfect cabinets for your budget and your home. Here are a few tips to get you started.
Custom Built, Semi-Custom Or Stock Cabinets?
Custom built cabinets are cabinets that are made by the manufacturer with your kitchen’s measurements and needs 100% in mind, they are made for your kitchen alone. While this option give you complete control, it is also the most expensive option and not necessary for most kitchens.
Semi-Custom cabinets are typically cabinets chosen from a particular line and are manufactured in a particular way, but are made with your custom measurements. These are very similar to custom cabinets and still carry many of their expenses.
Stock cabinets are cabinets that are made ahead of time in pre-determined sizes. Most kitchen can easily be completed with stock cabinets if a quality designer or contractor is used. Also, stock cabinets can be every bit as good of a cabinet as custom or semi-custom. Stock does not necessarily refer to quality.
Different cabinets are made with different materials. Some may have 3/4″ walls while others may have 1/2″ walls. Some drawers may be stapled together while others will have solid dove tailed joints. These are just a few of the things you need to look for when looking for new cabinets.
Another step in determining quality is how the finish is applied and what finish is used. Often times a factory finish is the best route to go as they have dust free spray booths and can use finishes that are not allowed in homes.
