World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov Visits Paradise Valley School
World chess champion and political activist, Garry Kasparov, recently visited a Paradise Valley school to discuss his life story with students.
According to the Paradise Valley Independent, Phoenix Country Day School hosted Kasparov, who had an insightful chat with students.
The conversation was moderated by school history teacher and former chess coach Matt Guthrie. Kasparov shared stories of escaping Russia, his views on Russia’s influence in the recent U.S. election, and what is was like to be the first human to successfully defeat a supercomputer—called Deep Blue—in chess, the article said.
Kasparov’s visit was made possible by Supreme Court Justice and former PCDS parent, grandparent, and trustee, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.
