Paradise Valley Teen Will Compete at National Hip Hop Championship
A Paradise Valley teen and her dance crew are competing in the international World Hip Hop Dance Championships.
According to the Paradise Valley Independent, Mia Dwyer-Kim and her dance crew Elektro Elite will compete against nearly 4,000 performers from around the globe in the hopes of becoming World Hip Hop Dance Champions during the competition, which runs through Saturday, Aug. 12 in Phoenix.
Dwyer-Kim and the team qualified for the world championships by earning one of the three top spots at the 16th Annual USA Hip Hop Dance Championship, according to the team’s Facebook page.
The 15-year-old Dwyer-Kim has overcome a serious breathing issue to be a member of the team. She has a condition that causes her vocal chords to narrow to one-quarter of their normal opening size when she exercises, the article explained. As a result, has had to learn breathing techniques to help her body get the oxygen it needs while she’s dancing.
