Paradise Valley Teacher Named Rodel Exemplary Teacher
Nancy Rhodes Francque, a sixth-grade special education teacher at Palomino Intermediate School in Paradise Valley, has been selected as a 2015 Rodel Exemplary Teacher.
According to AZCentral, the annual award is given by the Rodel Foundation of Arizona. Selected teachers have a record of improving student achievement in the schools they work at, and are then asked to mention high-potential student teachers.
Francque has spent all of her 8 years of teaching in special education. According to AZCentral, before she became a teacher, she worked as a legislative liaison for Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar. She was also one of the student teachers who benefited from a Rodel mentor.
“My mentor, Rodel Exemplary Teacher Tipton Coffman, taught me that it is not only acceptable but critical to be passionate about my students,” she told AZCentral. “I must show each student on a daily basis how proud I am of their achievements, that I have invested in their success, and that I truly care about each one of them as individuals.”
