Nonprofit Opens to Support Those Living With Cancer
A new nonprofit that provides support to those living with cancer and their caregivers has opened in Minnetonka.
According to the Sun Sailor, Gilda’s Club is the local affiliate of the Cancer Support Community, which is a network of 57 clubhouses where everyone living with cancer can come for emotional, social and psychological support.
“Over 28,000 people are affected by cancer every year in Minnesota,” Gilda’s Club Twin Cities Executive Director Michelle Silverman told the Sun Sailor. “With the opening of our first Gilda’s Club, none of them has to face this disease alone. Men, women, teens, children, their families and friends – all are welcome to become members of Gilda’s Club Twin Cities.”
According to the nonprofit’s website, it exists to create understanding communities and healing environments:
“Through the signature red door of the Gilda’s Club Twin Cities clubhouse, you’ll find a welcoming, home-like environment that offers an evidence-based professionally led program of support designed to meet the social, emotional and psychological needs of anyone dealing with cancer.
Gilda’s Club is located at 10560 Wayzata Blvd. in Minnetonka. For more information on Gilda’s Club, go to gildasclubtwincities.org.
