Minnetonka Football Head Coach Makes an Impact Both On and Off the Field

After an astonishing 235 career wins, two state championships, and 36 years of coaching, Minnetonka High School head football coach Dave Nelson has earned an honorable recognition! Recently inducted into the Minnesota Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame, he has a resume that is tough to beat.

The Skippers’ were not doing so well when Nelson came into the picture in 2002. With a combined record of 9-28 in four seasons, they really needed someone to step in and change the course! Nelson did exactly that in his first year as head coach and in his second season, Minnetonka made it to the section championship game!

Since then, the Skippers’ football program has stayed within the top ten in the state. Off the field, Nelson made a difference in the Minnetonka community. He began the “Men of Character” program, where he provides guidance to live life with care and respect. Nelson is truly a local hero, and will continue to make an impact on the people that surround him.
