Enjoy Guided Nature Walks in Minnetonka

This year, Minnetonka’s natural resource division staff are excited to offer a series of workshops and plant walks for you can participate in! There will also be other workshops offered through various community organizations.

These activities are FREE and you can register for workshops and plant walks by visiting the Natural Resource Workshops page or call 952.988.8400 for more information.

The guided plant walks will take place in a Minnetonka park where native habitat restoration is underway. You will walk with the city’s best restoration specialist and learn about recent restoration activities. You will also look for and identify wildflowers where buckthorn has been removed, and see some now-uncommon woody species that are being restored. Discuss the importance of a diversity of native plant species for the native insect pollinators and songbirds, and identify some of the invasive “bad guys.”

• Walks are held rain or shine. Wear appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear.
• Recommended equipment: water bottle, binoculars and notebook.
• Meet at location specified in table.

The City of Minnetonka is calling all crafters and artists in Minnetonka! Applications are now being expected for the popular annual Art Fair during the Burwell House Ice Cream Social. Crafters and artists are invited and encouraged to participate by submitting an application by April 30.

The 2013 Burwell Art Fair takes place Saturday, June 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Charles H. Burwell House,  as part of the annual Burwell House Ice Cream Social.

This annual event is an Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social that features fun activities such as live music, free self-guided tours of the Burwell House which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as a guided walking tours of improvements to Minnetonka Mills Park, surrounding the Burwell House. There are also tons of children’s activities, including spin art offered by local art gallery Your Art’s Desire.

This is a great opportunity to share your talent and have some fun at the same time!

Every year Hennepin County organizes a collection events to give residents more convenient, local disposal options for their household hazardous wastes.

This event will be held Thursday through Saturday, and sites are open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day of the collection.

Register Now for a Minnetonka Garden Plot

Do you have dreams of gardening but living in a condo or  townhome with no lawn space? Perhaps you own a house but for one reason or another there’s no time or space to create your own garden? Or maybe you just want a space where you can get some relaxation and quite while you garden? Minnetonka has the answer for you!

Every year Minnetonka residences have an opportunity to rent a garden plot offered by Minnetonka Recreation, for the sole purpose of gardening. For Minnetonka residents, plots are available for rent starting March 5.  Non-residents may purchase plots starting March 12 (Hopkins- March 11).

Minnetonka gardeners who rented a plot last year and already established proof of residency may register by phone and pay with a credit card. When calling, you must know which plot you want and be prepared with a second or third choice. Otherwise, registration is in-person, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Proof of residency is required. These plots fill quickly!

Minnetonka: The city of Minnetonka garden site is located at Excelsior Boulevard and Purgatory Creek. Minnetonka plots are available for rent at the recreation department at Minnetonka City Hall. There is a limite of two plots per household. Fees are $25 for each 20′x20′ plot. For more information call 952.939.8203.
