The Heritage High School Marching Band recently found out they will have the opportunity to perform in London, New Year’s Day! The London New Year’s Parade is an extravaganza of gorgeous dancers, cheerleaders, performers, and a variety of bands.
The Capital streets are a big celebration on New Year’s Day, and the marching band from Littleton get to be a part of the party this year. The Heritage Band was invited because of their recommendations from different international musicians that have marching band expertise
Dan Kirkby, communications director for the parade, said schools are selected based on recommendations from an international panel of musicians, with extensive marching band knowledge. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are permitted to come, they are working on getting current seniors to attend as well. The Heritage band director, Jeff Helms is beyond ecstatic for the trip to London.
“I look forward to seeing how students react to marching through the streets of London and, especially, the final turn in the parade that leads toward Big Ben, which is now called the Elizabeth Tower. I remember my first reaction to it and it is unforgettable,” said Helms, according to the Littleton Independent Newspaper.
