One Littleton senior has made a name for herself in golf this year, taking home Colorado’s Community Media Female Golfer of the Year. Michelle Romano graduated from Rock Canyon, became a medalist in the Northern Regional last spring, and then took the Class 5A State High School Girls individual championship.
Romano has found her calling, after getting a later start at the sport than many of her peers it doesn’t show on the course. “I would definitely call myself an underdog,” said Romano in the Littleton Independent article. “Once I decided this is what I want to do, (I said) I have one year left and I might as well put in all my effort. I put in as much time as I possibly could to try to go out there and win.”
She did just that, winning everything she competed in after just a few years of playing golf. Bound for the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, Romano plans on continuing her golf career there. After winning with an even-par 71 at the Northern Regional at Highland Meadows, she was ready to take on the state tournament at Littleton’s Raccoon Creek.
“I started playing golf my freshman year in high school and never thought I would be here,” Romano said in the article. “It hasn’t exactly sunk in but winning the tournament meant that I put in the best effort that I could and it paid off.”
