Backyard Chickens Coming to Twin Cities Suburbs!
Plans are hatching in Lakeville for backyard chicken coops! It may seem like a far-fetched idea to have hens and a rooster running around residential property so close to the Twin Cities, but many other metro areas around the country have been doing this for years. Not only can they be your pets, but they can help with your breakfast – fresh eggs anyone?
A few council members are still on the fence about supporting the chicken ordinance. Their concerns are how it will affect the neighbors and the quantity that should be allowed per household. Some residents just cannot wait to keep these back-yard friends! Of course, while this may be a cost effective way would be to produce your own eggs, it carries the side benefit that neighborhood kids would love it.
Currently, more than a dozen Twin Cities suburbs allow small coops on residential property! The healthier, more fresh alternative is getting closer to being passed in Lakeville. In the near future – you may be able to have your very own chickens to tend to at the crack of dawn! Cock-a-doodle-do!
