The Libertine and Pizzology Equals the Perfect Combination
One of Indianapolis‘s best kept secrets is The Libertine Liquor Bar and Pizzology Pizzeria and Pub. Owner Neal Brown sets the tone for the food scene in and around downtown. Known as a top chef in the Midwest, Chef Brown was also voted “Best New Restaurant” by a number of noted publications.
Foodies should check out the rustic feel of this place, located at 38 E. Washington Street. According to SAVEUR, The Libertine has a long narrow bar with Golden orbs of light hanging over each table. Lanterns hang loosely on the white tree branches that adorn the corners of the bar. They also suggest ordering a Screw & Bolt cocktail, made with gin, orange blossom water, and tonic.
Pizzology has unique pizza creations that can’t be found anywhere else in the Indianapolis area. Homemade fennel sausage, porchetta, fresh mozzarella, and wood-roasted Brussel sprouts sit on top of a light, crispy crust. Other dishes include Brown’s famous hamachi carpaccio topped with a wasabi tobiko, horseradish, pea tendrils, and sriracha oil. Sounds a little bit out of the normal realm of food choices, but is worth a try.
In addition to his phenomenal bar and restaurant, Chef Brown is the founder of the Indianapolis summer festival, Dig IN, which celebrates the food and culture of Indiana. When he opened Pizzology in 2009, food critics had nothing but great things to say about the place. It quickly won Best New Restaurant by the editors of Nuvo, and “Top 10 Restaurant” by Indianapolis Monthly.
