Indianapolis Finally Opens First Craft Doughnut Store
Opening Indianapolis’ very first craft doughnut shop, owner Adam Perry decided to take a leap of faith by making unique twists on our favorite pastry. General American Donut Company, located at 827 S. East Street, will be popular place to be for doughnut lovers, and it’s anything but general.
Every single delectable treat is made from scratch. With flavors such as s’mores, filled with marshmallow fluff and topped with a thick layer of chocolate icing and graham cracker crumbs, to a maple bourbon bacon doughnut with bourbon-infused icing sprinkled with Smoking Goose bacon. If those don’t sound mouth-watering already – check your pulse.
Owner Perry has been working nonstop to make sure every single flavor comes out perfect for his customers. “It’s very hard,” Perry said in the IndyStar article. “Part art, part science, part magic.” It has taken him over a year to come up with the delicious combinations he has on the menu. Co-owner and significant other Kari Nickander is also a major part of the creations, and works with Perry night and day.
Not only are these sugary delights a part of our country’s tradition, but they are irresistible. Other varieties include: crème brulee, fresh raspberry filled with lemon dusting, as well as homemade ice cream sandwiches and cronuts, a combination of a doughnut and a croissant. Yum!
Stop into the General American Doughnut Co. Tuesday through Sunday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. to find the perfect pastry.
“We see it more as a coffee shop that serves doughnuts,” he said in the article, “rather than a doughnut place that serves coffee.”
