Chef Mehallick Opening Fresh, Diverse Market this Fall
A new, gourmet take-out food market is under construction located at 1101 N. College Avenue. Indianapolis chef Regina Mehallick opened her restaurant in 2001 just a half mile away and decided to open this market to promote local growers. R Bistro has become very popular since she opened it on Mass. Avenue with an innovative menu for the city’s foodies.
This fresh grocery shopping concept is named R2GO that will have diverse dishes and ready-to-eat meals to bring home for lunch or dinner. It is scheduled to open its doors in September in a previously abandoned brick building near downtown.
Including hard to find products such as stock cheeses, canned and tinned items, and locally produced charcuterie are just a few of the deliciously unusual things guests will find. The 2,700-square-foot building is focusing on the support of local produce and restauranteurs that love food.
According to the IndyStar article, Mehallick learned about the building space from the landlord. The chef believes the surrounding residential population will engage the friendly neighborhood market she envisions. “I’ve been saying I’m going to do this for a while,” Mehallick said in the article. “Now, in the next two weeks, I have to figure all this stuff out.”
Until R2GO opens in the fall, R Bistro will be open except for their summer break they have each year from June 29 through July 7. Residents look forward to a market that focuses on bettering the already growing economy of Indianapolis.
