Arapahoe County Awards Nine College Scholarships

As the 31 teenagers awaited patiently to receive their recognition, Arapahoe County commissioners spoke on how hard these students worked to get to this point in their education. According to The Villager news article, these high schoolers have overcome significant personal adversity while maintaining academic excellence and a positive attitude.

Each year, the Colorado Community College awards one scholarship per county. This time, the County Commissioners solicited donations to fund additional scholarships, according to the article. Additional funds were donated by the Arapahoe County Foundation and the Centennial Airport Foundation.

 

City of Greenwood Village Mayor Ron Rakowsky awarded nine $1,000 college scholarships.

 

The following individuals were nominated by their school counselors, teachers, mentors and parents:

Connie Appiah Hinkley High School, Andrea Guardado Options High School, Kayia Hardin-Lawson Cherokee Trail High School, Maria Johnsen Colorado’s Finest Alternative High School, Ncog “Mary” Le Heritage High School, Javier Lopez Colorado’s Finest Alternative High School
