New Greenwood Aquatics Center Opens Next Summer
Greenwood is expecting a new family fun facility next year that will shake things up a bit. After putting in the recent splash pad, it only sparked interest with the city to do something more. Freedom Park is going to be home to a new aquatics center that offers entertainment and wellness.
The ten million dollar building will include a leisure river, a lazy river type feature where you can float along on inner tubes, according to wthr.com. There will also be a lap pool with a diving area and a play area for kids, where they can crawl around on fun things while getting wet. Mayor Mark Meyers said in the recent article that the benefit of this center goes beyond creating a summer centerpiece for those who already live here.
“As we look at bringing [more businesses] into the city – the people look for quality of life and one thing we don’t have to offer is an aquatics center. People who want to relocate their businesses want something for their employees and their families and that’s one of the things we’re lacking. So, we’re really excited about that,” said Mayor Myers in the article.
By next summer, the center should be ready to go. Joining the city’s splash park, Greenwood residents look forward to having an options to cooling off from the hot sun. Although the groundbreaking has already begun, the facility doesn’t open until Memorial Day 2015.
