High School Band Conductor to Return to Greenwood for Special Performance
The man who turned Greenwood Community High School’s marching band into a juggernaut is returning to serve as a guest conductor at the Greenwood Community Band Festival.
According to the Daily Journal, Herman Knoll will serve as the guest conductor for the all-band performance of this year’s festival, which is set for Aug. 26 at the Greenwood Amphitheater.
Knoll came to Greenwood in 1973 and guided the school to its first ever Indiana State Fair band competition championship shortly thereafter, the report said.
Though he left the school in 1976, the foundation he built has resulted in another 13 Indiana State School Music Association championships.
