Greenwood’s Little Airport Considers New Hangars
Greenwood’s very own airport might become a busy hub that will include jets and private pilots that are traveling to Central Indiana. The city is tossing around the idea of an estimated $5 million budget and a plan to build new aircraft hangars, upgrade the terminal and other various improvements.
“We were under threat of almost closing several years ago,” said David Kovach, chairman of Greenwood’s board of aviation commissioners, in the IndyStar article. “Now we’re a vibrant airport once again. How can we make it better and keep it growing?”
Located by County Line Road and Emerson Avenue, the little airport will be an economical boost for the city. Currently, the airport only gets about 79 planes taking off and landing each day. After they add the hangars that number will significantly increase.
According to the article, the improvements would be funded by a tax increment financing district. They also expect to bring a proposal before Greenwood’s Redevelopment Commission in October.
