Greenwood Community Encourages Arts and Culture for All Ages
The art culture in Greenwood is very much alive, and residents are encouraged to be a part of the community efforts. Not to be overshadowed by it proximity to Indianapolis, Greenwood has been able to make its own mark on the arts and culture map, by offering an array of classes and events each year that promote different forms of expression.
Offering classes and workshops year round, the Southside Arts League engages a variety of mediums. From watercolors to oil painting, these teachers can show anyone how to hone techniques and become more accomplished. There is also a gallery that showcases works from local artists, as well as others from the surrounding area. In addition, ceramic classes are offered for all ages, with programs specifically aimed towards Greenwood children.
Another form of art is music. The Greater Greenwood Community Band is well known in the community, participating in the annual Greenwood Park Summer Concert Series along with several other local performances each year. This is an all volunteer band that simply enjoys making music together. It provides an opportunity for members to perform in public and helps the musically talented to hone their craft.
Just a few minutes away are world class exhibitions at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, where Greenwood residents can go see works of art from various parts the world.
