Greenwood Begins Plans to Rebuild and Restore the Old Downtown this Year
After some debate, the Greenwood city council came to the conclusion that they will put money towards renovating downtown. The historic buildings and streets may require more money than originally expected, so they are considering options for the project.
Development plans include fixing the streets, sidewalks and building facades. In return, the current and future residents will have a more modern community to look forward to! Even though there seems to be some dramatic changes in the near future, most people want to keep the old charm look of Greenwood present. Most renovations are geared towards preserving the culture and history.
The city continues to apply for grants from the state to hire a designer to help keep the community somewhat similar. Voting to also expand the eastside district is underway, so that Greenwood can adapt to the growing economy. The goal is to fund an estimated $22.2 million in downtown infrastructure and other projects.
