Littleton Public School District Receives Multiple Awards

SEVEN State Awards for Excellence to be Exact!

The Colorado Department of Education recently announced districts and schools that have received various awards for their excellence in student achievement.

2012 Accredited with Distinction rating
For the third year in a row, Littleton Public Schools earned the rating of, “Accredited with Distinction,” the highest accreditation rating given by the Colorado Department of Education. Only 18 school districts, or 10 percent of Colorado’s school districts, earned this top academic rating. Little Public School District has earned this all three years it has been awarded. LPS remains the only school district in the Denver Metro area to be Accredited with Distinction.

In addition, several LPS schools received awards:

2012 John Irwin Award
The 2012 John Irwin awards are awarded to schools that exceed expectations on the three-year school performance framework’s indicator related to academic achievement and that meet or exceed expectations on the indicator related to academic growth gaps. These schools demonstrate the highest levels of achievement, not just for some students but also adequate performance across all student groups. High schools receiving this award also meet or exceed graduation expectations. LPS schools that received this award are:

  • Arapahoe High School
  • Heritage High School
  • Lenski Elementary School
  • Littleton Academy Charter School
  • Sandburg Elementary School
  • Wilder Elementary School

2012 Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award
The 2012 Governor’s Distinguished Improvement awards are awarded to schools that exceed expectations on the three-year school performance framework’s indicator related to academic growth and “meet or exceed” expectations on the indicator related to academic growth gaps. These schools demonstrate the highest levels of growth for not just some students but all student groups. Runyon Elementary School received this award.
