Cherry Creek Bus Drivers Showcase Skills at State ‘Bus Roadeo’

Dozens of Cherry Creek School District bus drivers had a chance to showcase their driving skills during the state’s annual “bus roadeo” June 12.

According to the school district, which serves Centennial, the bus roadeo is an annual contest held by the Colorado State Pupil Transportation Association designed to test bus drivers’ skills and know-how. Hundreds of bus drivers from around the state participated, and this year is the first time a Cherry Creek hosted the event.

Cherry Creek driver James Buchanan took first place in the conventional competition, the release said, and now he’ll compete in the national School Bus Driver International Safety Competition in Philadelphia, Penn. on July 21 and July 22.

Three of the four past state champions are still employed by Cherry Creek Schools.
