Centennial Airport’s 50th Anniversary Celebration to Feature Capt. Sully Sullenberger

The 50th anniversary celebration for the Centennial Airport, which offers commuter service for many local businesses, will feature a visit and speech from Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger.

According to the Littleton Independent, the airport, which was once named the Arapahoe County Airport, will celebrate its anniversary on May 25 during a luncheon at the Denver Marriott Tech Center. Sullengerger will reportedly talk about the life lessons that prepared him to handle the historic moment when he saved 155 lives on a flight that safely landed in the Hudson River during an emergency in 2009.

And as it turns out, Sully is familiar with the airport. While he was in college, he went to the airport to fly a Cessna 172 to get some flight time in. In addition, during early years in the U.S. Air Force Academy, he flew in and out of the airport a number of times.

The luncheon will go from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and tickets are $250, which can be purchased at bit.ly/SULLYmedia, the report said. Proceeds go to the Centennial Airport Foundation, which supports local STEM education and programs, particularly with an emphasis on aviation and aerospace.
