Getting Your Remodel On!
This fall, it is expected that over 52 percent of homeowners will complete some sort of home improvement project. That means that the odds of you doing an improvement to your home are higher than not! Now, that does not mean that everyone is going to be completing a whole house remodel, but we are a society that is very into home improvement. This is a good thing.
Whether you are doing things yourself or planning on hiring a contractor, here are a few tips to get you started on the right path with your home improvement project.
Make A Plan
Before you call in any contractors or anything, go through your home and determine exactly what needs to be done. This can be rather general, you just need a plan outline at this time. In this plan determine exactly what your project is and when you want it done by.
Create a Budget
Many people think that they cannot make a budget until they know how much everything costs. This is not true. Your budget should be determined before you start getting estimates or choosing materials or anything. If you can afford $15,000 for a kitchen remodel, than this will determine who you hire and what materials you use.
Go online and start gathering your inspiration. You can visit Pinterest, Houze or one of many different sites that have home pictures. You can print these out, keep them in a folder or what ever you wish. This will give you ideas to discuss with your contractor, bring to the home improvement store or whatever you need.
Even if you are thinking of tackling the project yourself, meeting with contractors is a good idea. Discuss your plan, your budget and your ideas with them so they can give you an accurate quote, they will also be able to steer you in the right direction to get as close to your wish list as possible within your budget.
