Castle Rock is Honored to be a Bicycle Friendly Community

Last month Castle Rock was honored for it’s strides in becoming a Bicycle Friendly Community!

With more than 300 days of sunshine in Colorado each year and is known for their outdoor activities, there is plenty of time to be outside, even in early December, so why not get out and enjoy the Town on two wheels? So of course it’s only natural that Castle Rock was named a Bicycle Friendly Community.

In Castle Rock, there are more than 50 miles of paved or soft-surface trails, with 50 more miles being planned. This year, the Town completed the first phase of Hangmans Gulch Trail and began the second phase. Once completed, this trail will connect from the Castle Rock Recreation Center to Front Street and under Interstate 25 to the East Plum Creek Trail.

The Town also sponsors or hosts several bicycling events each year, including the Rhyolite Downhill race, Ridgeline Rampage State Endurance Race Series, Tri The Rock Race, State Cyclocross Race, ERock Twilight Criterium professional cycling race, Ride The Ridge, Pedal The Moon moonlight ride, Elephant Rock Ride and Bike To Work Day. On occasion, the Town even sponsors the State Championship High School Mountain Bike Race.

The Bicycle Friendly America Program is sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists, which promotes bicycling for fun, fitness and transportation. The program honors communities, states, businesses and universities with its awards each year.
