B&O Bicycle Tour Celebrates National Trail Day
The annual B&O Bicycle Tour is this Saturday, June 7 to help raise money for the B&O Trail, a popular place to spend time outside. Organized by the Hendricks County Trail Development Association (HCTDA), bicyclists from central Indiana flock to the tour located in Williams Park.
A traditional event held every year since 1986, it is also recognized as National Trails Day. Jeff Smallwood is the president of HCTDA and is looking forward to another great biking event. “The B&O Bicycle Tour is sponsored by Hendricks Regional Health,” Smallwood said in the Flyer Group newspaper. “Check in starts at 7 a.m. and we will have a mass start in three staggered groups beginning at 8:30 a.m.”
There have been 22 years of the annual tour, and for the last three years there have been more than 900 riders that have created the largest fundraiser for the trail. Bikers can choose from four routes – 10 miles, 25 miles, 45 miles, and 62 miles.
Everyone is welcome to participate, including a family-friendly atmosphere that is suitable for children. Along each route, bicyclists can stop and grab some refreshments such as cookies, fruit, water and even some bathroom breaks. The 62-mile route goes around the entire Heritage Lake and offers a scenic view the entire ride.
Live music is provided by Avon’s very own high school jazz band and the Starry Nights Big Band. Listen to the music while eating a barbeque lunch catered by Cunningham Restaurant Group – included with registration – there is also special rates for families with young children.
Registration is $25 for each individual, or $30 the day of the event. Families can join in on the fun for $55 in advance and $65 June 7th. To register or to volunteer visit their website at www.botrail.org or call 317-745-2471 .
