Avon High School Surpasses Fundraiser Expectations!
With a fundraising goal of a whopping $20,000, Avon High School exceeded their expectations last Saturday at the Spring Carnival and Riley Dance Marathon! By raising $23,274, the AHS students have reason to be proud of their achievement and so does the rest of the community. The reason for the school sponsored events is to raise money for student organizations.
According to the Hendricks County Flyer, an Avon teacher and a student government sponsor, Sarah Fowler, said, “The carnival, which is in its second year, featured activities from each club at school, as well as a petting zoo!” In addition, the spring event had an art auction, a bounce house, club promoting activities that went along with the carnival theme. The students and teachers were all amazed at the amount of money this small town could provide for Avon High School.
Fowler also said that, “All these activities are actually thought up completely by the club presidents – they organize it.” The main point of the carnival is to get the community involved, and it worked! On the other hand, the dance marathon has been a part of the town for quite some time. AHS senior Mark Bode, president of the executive board, explained how integrating the carnival with the Dance Marathon was a great idea.
“The dance marathon is something that we do every year,” he said. “We start planning it in the summer before so we’ve been working at this for 10 months or so.” What really made the event huge was an AHS Lip Dub video that went viral and accumulated some media attention! The video alone made $4,000, which made the fundraiser go above their goal of $20,000! 27 other states, including Canada and Australia, donated money towards their student organizations just because of this entertaining, yet convincing video.
