Operation: Make Foster Kids Smile This Christmas
Spreading cheer across Ahwatukee this holiday to local foster group homes is the goal of Operation Christmas Smile. Local businesses, churches and residents gather each year to conduct drives for kids and teens. The organization just started last year and is going to be a continuing tradition in the community.
There are 27 drop-off sites across the Valley for gifts. They are asking for new and unused sports equipment, toiletries, gift cards and games. Operation Christmas Smile is aiming toward the older children that don’t get a lot of presents each year, from ages 10 to 18.
According to Ahwatukee Foothill News, Both drives came as a result of a Connecting to Serve meeting on foster care issues in 2012. Connecting to Serve brings together local churches and service organizations to combine resources to solve community problems. This year their goal is to gather 1,400 gifts. The project will continue to collect donations through December 11th. For more information visit: www.OperationChristmasSmile.org.
