Mountain Pointe Graduate to Lead Arizona State’s Cross Country Program

A Mountain Pointe High School graduate has taken over as head coach of Arizona State University’s (ASU) men’s and women’s cross country program.

According to the Ahwatukee Foothills News, Jeremy Rasmussen becomes the eighth men’s coach and sixth women’s coach in the 55-year history of the ASU program.

Rasmussen graduated from Mountain Pointe, which serves Ahwatukee, and then was a walk-on with the ASU cross country program. While there he earned the 2000 Pac-10 title in the 3k steeplechase, and then followed that with a couple of runner-up finishes in later years, the article said.

In 2014, he returned to rejoin the ASU program as an assistant coach. Now he’ll take over for Louie Quintana, ASU’s head coach for the past 12 years, who left the program for a similar role in Oregon.
