Ahwatukee Student Named a Flinn Scholar
Horizon Honors High School senior Kara Dunn is one of 20 Arizona students to be chosen to receive a Flinn scholarship this year.
According to the Ahwatukee Foothills News, Dunn is the first Horizon Honors student to receive the scholarship and was selected out of 791 applicants.
“Flinn scholars are among the highest academic performers,” the newspaper wrote. “To qualify for the scholarship, they must earn a minimum 3.5 GPA, score at least 1300 on the SAT or 29 on the ACT and rank in the top 5 percent of their classes. On top of that, they must demonstrate leadership in extracurricular activities.”
All scholarship recipients receive a number of special perks including full tuition to a state university, a study abroad experience in China, funding for at least one additional study abroad program, and an off-campus internship and mentorship from university faculty.
Next year, Dunn is attending the honors college at University of Arizona and plans to double major in physiology and nutrition, and minor in Spanish, the newspaper said.
