Ahwatukee Football takes Top Seed in Division 1

High schools all over the country are getting ready for top positions in their state, and then hopefully nationals! The footballs playoffs begin tonight, and goes well into the end of fall. The top seeds this year? Ahwatukee, Chandler, and Mesa, schools from Southeast Arizona.

This is not any of the teams first trip to Division 1 playoffs, so the competition isn’t going to be easy. In fact, Ahwatukee reigns in Mountain Pointe and Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, nationally ranked schools! There is still some doubt among the players because beating a great team once is a feat, but the second time can prove more difficult.

According to Azcentral.com, Mountain Pointe Coach Norris Vaughan said, “We’re in the same bracket with Desert Ridge and I know they have a tremendous team.” He also explains the challenges they face, “They have tremendous talent. There’s a lot of talent in the state — Hamilton and Chandler and Desert Ridge, and teams I haven’t even seen, like Horizon.”

Despite the hardships face ahead, the team is prepared and are favored to take it all!
