Ahwatukee Elementary Schoolers Make Pen-Pal Friends Through Literacy Program

Nineteen Ahwatukee first- and second-graders made some new friends while learning literacy skills this year.

According to the Ahwatukee Foothills News, the elementary students at Magical Journey Learning Center in Ahwatukee have been writing most of the school year to pen-pals at Vista College Preparatory, a charter school in Phoenix.

Recently, the young students met their student pen-pals when they performed their Reader’s Theater plays for the Vista students at the center, the report said. Reader’s Theater gives student essential practice in oral reading fluency and public speaking.

In addition, the elementary students gave Vista a free little library they had made and decorated.
