Ahwatukee Band ‘All is King’ Heads to China International Music Festival
All is King decided to get together and form a band about a year ago – it was the best decision of their lives. Now, the Ahwatukee-based rock band is representing Phoenix at an international music festival in Chengdu, China. They will be heading overseas to play for crowds of about 8,000 people at the end of July.
According to the Ahwatukee Foothills News, Ben Valdez, 19, Lucas Blanchard, 20, and Dylan Skaggs, 21, are leaving for China on July 21 to spend 10 nights there. Performing at the Chengdu International Youth Music Festival, All is King hopes to move this cultural audience with their unique music.
“It’s all new,” Valdez said in the article. “The fact that it’s all new and moving so fast – I mean some bands take years to be exposed – it’s all about the people we’re surrounded by and the community we’re in. It helps a lot. We’re very fortunate to have people that are so easy to reach out to.”
The band members were inspired by the popular, mainstream band Muse to form their own type of genre. After attending the concert, Valdez decided that he needed to start a band once and for all. All is King began as a casual get together with friends that had particular talents, as well as studying documentaries and live performance to learn the business.
Now, they have about a dozen songs written in just under a year. Described as a mixture of different styles of rock – blues, alternative, funk and punk, the group definitely has made their own sound that has gained popularity quickly. According to the article, They chose the word “king” to represent something great or powerful and “all is” to say every thing is good and of worth.
Ahwatukee resident Alex Sipes saw potential in All is King. He already had his own band, Gram Negative, and attended past international festivals, so he chose All is King to go to China this year. The band members are still trying to raise money for their trip coming up in a few weeks. For more information on how to donate, visit www.kickstarter.com.
